Wells Fargo once monopolized long-distance overland stage coach...
and mail services. By 1866 the company owned Pony Express and received $600,000 a year in government grants for mail service. Along with carrying mail, for $200 a person could ride along on the 22 day trip from St. Louis, Missouri to San Francisco, California.
